It’s the top layer of the hide, including the full thickness of the skin, and is not sanded or buffed to remove natural marks or imperfections. The full thickness makes this the most difficult type of leather for manufacturers to work.
Leather patches can be stitched on, ironed on, stuck on, or velcroed on just like any other patch style.

Top grain leather is the second highest grade of leather and has the outermost layer of the hide removed. This difference makes the leather thinner and more workable for the manufacturer, which is reflected in the price compared to full grain leather.
